Formerly a cheese dairy, today a distillery: Behind Macardo are Andy and Martina Bössow, who skillfully combine tradition and innovation in Strohwilen. After all, Macardo is still distilled today with a lot of manual work, in small quantities and with fire. The rest is high-tech under the sign of sustainability. This philosophy runs through the entire building, which since its renovation in 2020 is more than just a distillery. It also includes a unique event location - the new barrel warehouse - a premium bed & breakfast with business apartments, a bar and a cigar lounge with a walk-in store. Prolux Solutions AG from Arbon made a significant contribution to the resource-saving heating and air conditioning of the Macardo World.

Comfort and design

The rooms and apartments deserve to be called "premium": high-quality materials, modern designs and a pleasant living climate make the stay something special. The convectors and fan coils from Prolux blend seamlessly into the interior design of the apartments. Samdup Lanying, sales consultant at Prolux Solutions AG, explains why: "The Carisma CRSO duct unit from Sabiana is designed for recessed installation. Installed in false ceilings, it enables heating and cooling of small to large living areas - and is particularly quiet, powerful and energy-efficient." Its successor model in the Prolux range bears the designation CRSL.

Prolux convectors are hidden under the heat outlets in stylish apartments. Their trademark? The enormous heat output. "It is the result of a perfect interplay between convection and radiant heat," explains Samdup Lanying. In the rooms located in the old building, one encounters a Swiss radiator classic from Prolux's full range: the Prolux heating wall. It has been continuously developed over the past decades and scores among other things with its continuous cover and diverse dimensioning options.

Energy used sensibly

The energy supply of the distillery and the new building is provided by a solar system and the ground, in addition to the wood for the distillery. The water comes from an own spring. "Thanks to the sophisticated energy concept, not a log of wood, not a kWh and not a liter of water is wasted," the entrepreneurs know to report. A reversible heat pump, fed by ten geothermal probes, each 200 meters long, is used here for both heating and cooling the premises.
