Tourism award goes to Macardo Swiss Distillery

The winner of the 21st Thurgau Tourism Prize comes from Amlikon-Bissegg and is called Macardo Swiss Distillery. The motivational award, endowed with 10000 Swiss francs, was presented on Thursday evening at the Thurgau Tourism Forum in Weinfelden.

Four companies or projects were nominated for the Thurgau Tourism Award 2022: in addition to the Macardo Swiss Distillery, the Baumhaus Thurgau in Halden, the Weinfelden Wine Trail and Autobau AG in Romanshorn, which, in order, took the other places.

The president of Thurgau Tourism and the Thurgau Tourism Award, Werner Fritschi, was pleased with the quality of the four finalists at the award ceremony and emphasized that "all are winners and no one is a loser"; rather, they are all "worthy representatives for Thurgau tourism".

Traditional and sustainable at the same time

According to jury spokeswoman Jasmin Wagner, the fact that it was the Macardo Swiss Distillery, which opened its doors in November 2020 in a former cheese dairy in Amlikon-Bissegg, was due on the one hand to the entrepreneurial performance of the Bössow couple, and on the other hand to the company's high level of innovation and sustainability. "In this way, we are honoring the entrepreneurial achievement and the high level of innovation behind the implementation of the Macardo world of enjoyment and experience, the Macardo "Fasslager 4.0" and the Macardo sustainability concept," Wagner said.

The fact that people in the apple canton of Thurgau know how to show off with whiskey, rum, and gin the way Macardo does is by no means a matter of course. However, Andy and Martina Bössow have understood how to combine tradition and innovation. At Macardo, the beers are fired by hand, in small batches, and with fire. The rest is high-tech, all in the name of sustainability.

A thank you to the employees

The Minister of Economic Affairs, Walter Schönholzer, also gave the new prize winner a good grade. He himself had already spent - with the entire government council - a nice evening in Amlikon-Bissegg.

She was "very excited" before the announcement, Martina Bössow confessed during the award interview. What the prize money will be used for has not yet been decided, but one thing is certain: "We will use part of the money to organize a nice evening for our employees, because after all, their performance is essential to our success."
