The winners of the Falstaff Whisky Trophy 2019

222 whiskies from all over the world have been tasted by our jury on the occasion of the Falstaff Whisky Trophy 2019. The three highest rated of each country form the crème de la crème of the international whisky scene.

The tasting

The tastings for the Falstaff Whisky Trophy 2019 took place over several days at the "260°East Bar" in the "Palais Hansen Kempinski" hotel in Vienna and at the Falstaff offices in Vienna and Zurich. All samples were tasted blind and according to categories. Several people from the tasting panel were present at the tastings. They were led by Falstaff Editor-in-Chief Benjamin Herzog and by Erhard Ruthner, Falstaff Editor Spirits.

The grading

The whiskies in this Trophy were rated on Falstaff's 100-point scale. Whiskies with 95 to 100 points are considered first class classics, 93 to 94 points stand for excellent products, 91 to 92 points for excellent spirits, 88 to 90 points for very good products, whiskies with a rating of 85 to 87 points are recommendable.

92 points for Macardo Single Malt 2010  

Intensely toasty nose with notes of vanilla, spices and dried fruit. On the palate, beautifully soft and harmonious with woody-smoky as well as fruity cherry nuances in the finish. Successful, fruity Thurgau single malt.
