Strohwilen is home to the most innovative whisky cask storage facility in Europe

Swiss whiskey has been brewed in Strohwilen since 2015. Thanks to a rebuild, the noble little water can now be distilled in the most modern distillery in Switzerland and ferment in the most innovative whiskey barrel storage facility in Europe.

The good whiskeys of this world come from Ireland or Scotland. But not only. The Bössow couple also distills a Swiss premium whiskey in Strohwilen in the canton of Thurgau. "At one point, there wasn't enough room in our old distillery - a former cheese factory," says owner Andy Bössow. "And then we suddenly learned that an old cheese dairy also in Strohwilen was looking for a new owner." That was the foundation stone for the new Macardo distillery in Strohwilen. More than a year was spent building, and on November 28, 2020, the doors of the new distillery will open. "A milestone in the Swiss spirits industry," says Augustin Mettler, president of the association Die Schweizer Brenner. "A tourist beacon that will carry Thurgau out into the world," says a delighted Rolf Müller, managing director of Thurgau Tourism.
